Leading Change and Transformation | Principles and Perspectives for Effective Change

Program Objective
More than ever, change and the need for transformation are continuous challenges of businesses, organizations, and leaders. The program is specially offered for senior executives to address these challenges from their perspective, offer new ways of thinking and practical tools for them. The Faculty add extra value through their rich experience in leading change and supporting transformation processes.
The course is built around:
- The two Faculty’s combined experience of over 40 years in leading, consulting and researching change and transformation,
- The most modern change leadership thinking and do-how,
- SEED’s unique leadership development methodology and approach.
The objectives of the program:
- Provide participants with a practical framework of thinking and useful leadership toolset,
- Share and learn from the Faculty’s and SEED’s cases and examples, and
- Offer a unique opportunity for senior executives to discuss, share ideas and personal experience with other executives facing similar challenges.

Main Topics
The program is structured around the C.H.A.N.G.E. framework, the key principles and perspectives executives should take when leading change and transformation. After an introduction, we will address two principles in each occasion, focusing on the practical tools and techniques of senior leaders.
SESSION 1:
- Introduction, overview of the C.H.A.N.G.E. framework
- CAUSE: How do we ensure that change & transformation is driven by cause and purpose (rather than implementing a plan)? What is a „good” cause? Who’s cause should it be? How to define and share the cause of a change or transformation initiative? How to inspire our organization for a good CAUSE / PURPOSE?
- HUMAN: Change and transformation happens through and with people, but humans can be rather complicated especially when it comes to change situations. What are the behavior science „must-knows” about people and change? How to make use of them as senior leaders? What are the best leadership tools to engage people for change?
SESSION 2:
- ADAPT: Conditions and the environment are changing continuously, people and organizations are complex, you will not be able to „pre-plan and implement”. Change and transformation is a „journey of test, learn and discover”. How do you create a systematic process to lead in an adaptive way?
- NETWORK: In change & transformation situations think in networks of people spreading the change (rather than implementing it top-down). How can you tap into this network? How can you spread influence? How do you engage the network to create change?
SESSION 3:
- GOING ON: There will be difficulties along the way. How do you avoid / get though the „valley of death” of change & transformation processes? What are your personal means of resilience in these situations? How do you build „going-on mechanisms” into the process?
- ENVIRONMENT: What are the leadership roles and tools to create an environment that supports change? How do you build a culture that creates change? What is organizational agility and how to create it?
Program Structure
The topics will be discussed in a group of 8-10 senior executives, preferably from different companies. (We make sure to avoid situations where participants representing direct competitors would be part of the same group.)
- Short plenary presentations
- Plenary discussions including discussion of real-life change & transformation cases
- Small group discussions (two small groups of 4-5): discussion of the participants’ own situations and challenges, sharing ideas and alternative solutions.
The program consists of 3 half-day sessions, each day between 9:30-12:30. One hour additional follow-up consultation included for each participant free of charge.
Outcomes
- Improved perspective and practical understanding of the major leadership pitfalls and responsibilities in change and transformation situations.
- Deepened understanding of human and organizational behavior during change and the ability to apply a modern behavior-science based toolset to engage people for change.

dr. László Eszes | SEED Faculty Member
László is an internationally recognized expert in change leadership with over 30 years of experience. He led major transformation programs in various general and strategic leadership positions at JTI and T-Systems in Hungary and Switzerland. He is also Managing Partner of “Level9”, the international change management boutique consultancy, and advisor to numerous CEO’s and corporate leadership teams in Europe. László holds an MBA from the University of Bradford (UK) and a Doctoral Degree in Operations Research.
Tamás Bernáth | SEED Faculty Member
Tamás Bernáth is a seasoned professional in banking and consulting, with the additional benefit of starting his career as a trainer for several years after graduation. Recently, he has been Chairman and CEO of Appeninn Holding. Before that, he worked for finance corporates such as MFB Hungarian Development Bank, OTP, Erste and BNP Paribas and for consulting companies such as McKinsey, Scale and PwC.

This program summarizes the most recent and most impactful strategy theories and their practical application for senior decision makers.
It combines recent (past 10 years) ”global best” learnings in management practices, reviewed, modified and made specifically applicable by SEED Faculty’s own research.

- Creating and implementing a new brand, with a new strategy and fitting it into existing (and different) company strategy – challenges, learning (Guest speaker: Frigyes Endersz, Director of Strategy, E.ON)
Program Structure
The program is highly interactive and requires participants to bring their own examples and learnings to serve as actual cases to practice on. The learning structure will allow participants to work on their own strategic issues without revealing confidential information to other participants.
The program consists of 3 half-day sessions, each day between 9:30-12:30 and an individual, flexible follow-up consultation session as required.

Sandy Vaci | SEED Faculty Member
Sandy is a Canadian senior executive with 40 years experience from North America, Europe and Asia. He started his career at P&G Canada and ’retired’ from active work as CEO of Austria at The Royal Bank of Scotland and Chairman of the Board at the Credit Bank of Moscow. He remains active mentoring young executives, supporting start-ups and serving on various boards. He is the author of 4 business books and has been lecturing at Maastricht School of Management, IBD Business School, CEU and SEED. He is Founding Partner of CodeBreakers™, a company dedicated to bringing the latest cognitive applications to businesses worldwide.

Frigyes Endersz | E.ON
Frigyes is Director of Strategy at E.ON, with 20 years management experience. He is the former Strategy Director of T-Systems Hungary and Group Strategy Director of the Magyar Telekom Group. He launched and managed “Flip”, MT’s first significant new brand, and led its integration into MT’s overall corporate strategic approach. Frigyes is also Founding Member of CodeBreakers™.
